Head of Software Engineering

Hi, I'm Joseph

Award-winning Full-stack Developer turned Engineering Leader. Building high-performance teams and shipping world-class software.

🏆 UK IT Industry Awards Winner ☁️ Azure Certified 📚 Agile Leader

Welcome to Coder to Corner Office, a collection of insights on the journey from software engineer to business leader. With over a decade in commercial software development, I've navigated the path from writing code to leading engineering organisations, and I'm sharing everything I've learned along the way.

This page tells you what I’m focused on right now. Updated monthly.

What I’m Building

TCG SaaS Web Product

A new platform for trading card game enthusiasts — a passion project since both my wife and I are avid TCG players. This is my first real test of scale-to-zero architecture using Azure Native Development techniques.

Blog Enhancement Project

Adding series navigation, a templates library, and better content discovery to this site.

What I’m Trying Out

Scale to Zero Infrastructure

Implementing scale-to-zero architectures using Azure Container Apps, Azure Functions, and other serverless components to optimise costs for MVP SaaS products. I’m focused on understanding Azure-centric blueprints for this approach, which will inform other SaaS products I might build.

What I’m Reading

The Infinite Game

by Simon Sinek — Finally getting around to this one.

Red Country

by Joe Abercrombie — Sometimes you just need a good fantasy book to unwind with.

What I’m Changing My Mind About

AI Agents

Moving towards cautious optimism. The tooling is definitely getting better and my workflows are adapting to leverage them more effectively. Very much team Opus at the moment.

Platform Engineering

The pendulum is swinging back from over-engineering to “just enough” platform — this is where I’m focusing my efforts around scale-to-zero architectures.

Current Focus Areas

Professional

  • Leading platform engineering initiatives
  • Coaching new technical leaders
  • Writing pragmatic content on AI, delivery, and leadership

Personal

  • Building side projects with modern AI tooling and architectures
  • Exploring the intersection of robotics and software — especially humanoid systems like Boston Dynamics Atlas and Figure AI

Let's Connect

Interested in technology, leadership, or the intersection of both? I'd love to hear from you.
